- Britt Festivals Jacksonville's outdoor summer music festivals suit every taste from classical to bluegrass to musical theatre. The setting is gorgeous, the acoustics are great, and picnic dinners are encouraged (bring your own or buy from their vendors). Beer and wine are also available.

- Lithia Park a great place for a picnic or a peaceful walk, with two duck ponds and lots of plant life. The park stretches from the downtown Ashland Plaza up Lithia Creek for over a mile.
- Ski Ashland Mt. Ashland's ski area is closed in the summer, but it's a beautiful summer drive just minutes south of town.

- Bear Creek Corporation is one of the best-known local businesses, and the largest employer in Southern Oregon. They own Harry and David, which ships fresh fruit around the world. They also own Jackson and Perkins, breeder of the new Diana, Princess of Wales rose, and Northwest Express.

- Oregon State Parks listings throughout southern Oregon, including several in the Rogue Valley.
- Medford Parks & Recreation Department featuring free Sunday evening concerts from mid-June through August at the Bear Creek Park Amphitheater.
- Jackson County Parks park use info, but it doesn't tell you where the parks are. Emigrant Lake is only 2-3 miles from the dorms on the Greensprings Highway.
- Southern Oregon Speedway Stock car races every Saturday. (Go Rebecca!)
- Southern Oregon Magazine tells you about everything from the best fishing spots to the restoration of the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theatre (check out the pictures of this).

- Rodeway Inn between the dorms and Ashland High School, across Siskiyou Blvd. from the SOU campus.
- Mark Antony Hotel/Ashland Springs Hotel downtown Ashland, near the Shakespeare Festival. Recently remodeled and renamed, under new ownership.
- Ashland Hills Inn hotel, dining, and lounge at I-5 Exit 14, about a mile from the SOU campus. (Medford Windmill Inn is also part of the same chain. It's close to the Medford Airport.)
- Rogue Regency Inn hotel, dining, and lounge near the Medford Airport.
- The Black Sheep Pub English style fish and chips upstairs overlooking the plaza in downtown Ashland.
