Oregon’s Indoor Clean Air Act provides smokefree indoor air in all workplaces, restaurants, and bars. This extends to 10 feet from entrances, exits, windows that open, and ventilation intakes. Limited exceptions are granted to some motel rooms, smoke shops, and cigar bars. City ordinance prohibits smoking in all parks and in public spaces in downtown Ashland, including sidewalks, the Plaza and Chautauqua Square, plus all private spaces into which the public is invited. The smokefree laws extend to marijuana and vaping, not just tobacco. Ashland has a growing number of dispensaries where marijuana and cannabis products may be legally purchased. State law no longer bans all marijuana use, but federal law does—as do many employers—and many limits are in place, so don’t just assume that anything goes.
