U-turns are illegal except where specifically marked (the corner of Walker and Ashland, for instance). Oregon gas stations really do pay people to pump your gas for you, so sit back and enjoy it. If that bothers you, most stations now have a limited number of self-serve pumps where you can pay the same price to do-it-yourself. Please do not self-serve at a normal serve pump. Parking in downtown Ashland can be limited during peak tourist hours; carpooling and walking can be advantageous. As of 2018, Oregon has expanded the the “Move Over or Slow Down Law” to also include any non-emergency vehicle stopped on the side of a highway with hazard lights or emergency signs. The distracted driving law was also expanded to ban handheld use of any electronic device while driving or sitting in traffic, with some exceptions like using a single touch to activate a feature or calling for medical help when no one else is available to make the call.
